It’s good to be GREEN!

Wood-Mode has always been committed to the environment by preventing air pollution, gaining energy efficiency through waste reuse and preserving forests and other renewable resources.

In 1993 Wood Mode installed a Regenitive Thermal Oxidizer (RTO) for the cleansing of all Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC’s) created in our finish process. Over 99% of all VOC’s are destroyed in this process allowing WM to emit clean exhaust into the atmosphere. Many of our competitors, especially those North of the border, have no such system or consideration for the environment. Additionally, 90% of the heat generated in this process is captured and reused.

For many years, Wood Mode has burned all of its wood scraps and shavings. We grind the wood pieces into sawdust which is then burned to produce steam which is used for the drying kilns and in the cooler months, for plant heat and humidity control. We use no outside sources for this process which is extremely cost effective and environmentally friendly. These materials would otherwise end up in landfills, emitting harmful methane gas into the atmosphere. Wood Mode is proactive when it comes to recycling other things such as solvents, which are cleaned and reused whenever possible. All metal cans, paper and plastics are sent to recycling centers on a purely voluntary basis.

When it comes to responsible forest preservation, Wood Mode tops the list. All of our hardwoods come from NE United States and Canada. In this region, hardwood stocks are growing at twice the harvest rate and are never clear cut. Trees under 12” in diameter are never cut and each area is harvested only once each 10-20 years allowing the ecosystem to remain undisturbed for extended periods of time.

Wood Mode is a local company and as such uses less fuel and creates less pollution in delivering products to you and your clients. We are in the process of acquiring the Environmental Stewardship Program Certification of Compliance (ESPCOC) from KCMA and will advise you when it is awarded.
